Step 1: You can either make your own sheets or purchase a book with sheets. If you make your own, you would write out 60 math problems focusing on your child’s math level. (Addition only, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication, all of the above)
Step 2: Tell your children the plan and complete the first sheet. Time them for 2 minutes and record the number X/60 with the date
Step 3: Create an excel sheet. If you are unfamiliar with excel, open a blank sheet. In the 1.A space write ‘Date’ and 1.B write ‘Data’. Under each, put the date and the number they completed correctly.
Step 4: Periodically have them repeat Steps 2 and 3.
Step 5: After you have a few data points, highlight the data and click insert and chose one of the graphs. (I use a bar graph) Once the graph opens, click on the numbers on the axis and when the box opens, format the axis to a maximum of 60.
This allows your child to visually see their progress with their math fluency and makes it into a game to reach their personal best.
